    This is ridiculous. I've just started doing electronics but my solder really doesn't melt easy like that. I can add material quite ok but removing it is extremely challenging. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible that I have a shitty iron with cold tip? (I have a station that reaches 450 c in theory) or is it because I'm using lead free solder and they don't mix well? 2 adjacent pins is the max I've been able to desolder

    Stripping that pad with a scalpel and rolling it up, wasn't a technician's job, that was art. Btw, I found on EEVBLOG a recipe for making homemade flux. Since in Uruguay we lack access to specialized items, I tried to mix it. It was a great success! 30% en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosin 3% of Glycerin and the rest of Isoprophil Alcohol at 99% to complete 1L. Mixed it on a 1L bottle and shaked it once a day for three days. Filtered and put in a syringe. Works a treat! As a tangential bonus, you can make different mixes and have less viscus mix side by side with a paste.

    Why the hell does everyone else's solder wick suck up the solder like it's supposed to, but mine won't? I've tried everything. Cleaning contacts, adding leaded solder, high heat, lots of flux. Mine just ends up burning and getting sticky with old flux.

    So you are initially soldering the wire you're using to the pins to ensure that each one will thoroughly heat up so you can remove the desired component?

    • @mrsolderfix3996
      @mrsolderfix3996 8 днів тому

      Hi , thank you for your comment, much appreciated . Simple method , solder the wire to each pin , lay your iron tip on the wire , heat travels along the wire heating all joints at the same time , component is removed . People say why not just use solder suckers etc . It's a lot easier to clear holes totally with no pins in them . So many people now love this method , It has made my life so much easier when desoldering components . Also you can generally reuse the components as you haven't got to cut pins etc to remove them . Thanks again , take care 👍

    Really great method, and very well demonstrated. However if you use good quality wick like for example Soder-wick by Chemtronics, then the braid will already be saturated with flux and with its strong capillary action it will suck the solder off like a pump without having to ever flux the wick.

    • @mrsolderfix3996
      @mrsolderfix3996 15 днів тому

      Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated. I use 2 brands of braid , Chemtronics and Multicore . Like you say they come pre loaded with an amount of flux . But adding extra flux turns them from good to amazing . At times braid doesn't aways perform as it should . This is how to solve that problem . Thanks again , take care 👍

    • @mrsolderfix3996

      Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated . If you have a pretty decent soldering iron tip you can pick up blobs of solder as I showed . It may take a couple of attempts but in the end the molten solder blob will choose the iron tip rather than the component pads to stick to . Keep trying , you will master it 👍
